Poise is the new lamp collection from Kdln: a dynamic luminous circle with which to create different configurations and shape the light. Poise is a lamp that catches the eye at first glance, but its real strengths lie in its dynamic design and its ability to create ever-changing configurations with just one touch.

Poise is the new lamp collection designed by Robert Dabi for Kdln, a historic Italian company specialised in the lighting sector. This lamp exists in table, ceiling and floor versions and won the Golden A'Design Award in 2022. Poise is a unique and interactive lighting device whose innovative design invites the observer to interact with the lamp in an empathic relationship. Poise celebrates and enhances the purest form of all, the circle, from the inside of which radiates a soft, suggestive light that spreads like a halo around the lamp and illuminates the room in a gentle way.
The circle of light can be positioned in ever-changing configurations thanks to its 320-degree angle of rotation. This makes Poise an extremely versatile lamp that adapts to everyone's needs and tastes, because it seems to change its appearance radically in each of the many positions it can assume. Thanks to its lightness, rotation is effortless, subtly changing Poise's appearance and the lighting effect in the room. To complete the picture, Poise is equipped with a built-in dimmer that allows you to adjust the brightness.

Poise by Kdln confirms itself not only as a simple light source, but also as a dancing light sculpture, whose acrobatic play ensures a continuous invitation to interact with light. The black colour, minimalist design and light appearance make Poise a perfect lamp for any room in the house, suitable for any style of décor or for installation in contract settings. Poise fits discreetly into the living room, bedroom or hallway, giving a modern touch to the room and capturing the observer's attention from the first glance.

The luminous ring and its interior are made of opal polycarbonate, behind which a flexible LED strip is installed, which emits light towards the inside of the circle so as not to dazzle the observer. The light intensity can be easily adjusted with a dimmer.

Structure
In the table lamp, the luminous circle is connected to the painted metal rod via a flexible section, which allows the diffuser to be moved, rotated and tilted in any position. The structure is completed by a solid T-base, which acts as a counterweight and gives stability to the lamp. A second joint, located between the rod and the base, gives additional mobility to the table lamp.

The floor lamp consists of a base, attached to a long painted metal rod, which itself is joined to the circular diffuser by a flexible tube covered in technical fabric, which can be shaped as desired to alter Poise's aesthetics. In this version, the light ring is located at the height of the grip and invites the viewer to grasp the fabric tube to change the shape of the lamp.

In the ceiling lamp, the painted metal rod is reduced in size and attached to a ceiling rose; on the other side, the metal rod connects to the flexible tube of technical fabric, which supports the polycarbonate light ring.
The choice of using heavy steel for the lower (supporting) parts and aluminium for the upper parts allows the lamp to be stable in all positions and weigh only a few kilos, thus maintaining its graceful and slim design. The flexible part is made of a silicone-coated tube and black nylon.

Robert Dabi: the designer
"My lamp concept involves interaction between man and object, to change the way light is perceived. This should encourage curiosity and human interaction with the light source, instead of confining it to a static use. I strive to create a deeper relationship with the manufactured product."

Robert Dabi is the designer behind Poise for Kdln. He started working as a creative around 2002 and gained experience in various fields such as illustration, graphic design, interaction design and photography. In 2010, he moved into product design and co-founded a watch brand. His creative flair leads him to experiment and explore new design areas, approaching light design, a passion he has always cultivated. He freely experiments with new materials and concepts, creating innovative projects.
He currently lives in Nuremberg, Germany, where he produces his work in his studio. The products he has created have been sold all over the world and are exhibited in many prominent locations such as the MoMa Design Store.
