Without realising it, 2018 has already come to the end. The time has therefore come to take a look at the future, to understand what the furnishing trends of the impending 2019 will be. "Bold" and "rich" are certainly the adjectives that immediately come to mind when we look at current and future trends in interior design: strong accents of color, attractive patterns, finishes and accessories that do not go unnoticed. To keep up to date with the fashions of the moment, below we reveal the most significant trends to keep an eye on in 2019.
GOLD, GOLD AND GOLD AGAIN
First it was white, then chrome, and now it is gold. Undisputed protagonist of the '20s, '60s and '70s, the nuance inspired by the most precious of metals has returned to the forefront and is quickly conquering the world of interior design; following this trend, gold furniture and accessories are becoming increasingly popular, as are those in copper and brass. Gold and its nuances are certainly not immune from criticism and prejudice but, if used with care and parsimony, gold has never been so beautiful.
FLORAL FANTASY OR GEOMETRIC RIGOR?
Whether it's floral patterns or geometric textures, the reference to vintage style is evident. The choice between the two decorative patterns depends only on personal taste, but both are equally depopulating in the modern interiors of our homes, so as to be universally recognized as one of the major furnishing trends of 2019.
Great walls with drawings of immense colored flowers, wallpapers and pictures with beautiful flowers of every color. Or triangles, parallel lines, repeated motifs and angular shapes that follow a completely new design, to give a touch of modern rationality to the furniture of our home.
This new trend is described by interior designer Michel Boyd as follows: "I'm currently being overwhelmed by geometric motifs: we're moving further and further away from the rigorous tribal patterns to come closer to freer, oversized and asymmetrical forms. Everything is perfectly imperfect.“
COLOUR EXPLOSION
Geometry and colour go together very well: that's why, in 2019, the trends in the colours of furniture seem to be undergoing a sharp turn. If last year was characterized by soft and romantic pastel colors, this year the season will focus on bright and saturated colors, intense and vibrant, often difficult but incredibly fascinating. The predominant ones will be blue (from shades of light blue to midnight blue), dark green and deep red. Black has also been strongly revalued and the strong contrasts of black and white or the combinations of black and fluorescent colors have become a must in interior design.
CURVY DESIGN
The new bon-ton of design prefers plus-sized furniture. A revolution marked by solid furnishings, soft lines and comfortable collective seats that invite to conviviality. So we find tables with a sculptural design, upholstered sofas, lamps with full shapes and oversized beds: the queen size of 2019 is definitely XL.
"Next year, opt for a curvy aesthetic. Rounded furniture inspired by the 1970s will continue to take over. The chairs with rounded backs are a chic way to bring the curvy trend into the home. - Anne Hepfer, interior designer
ART DECO
More and more people think that Art Deco has been in the background for too long, but current trends in interior design lead us to think that, in 2019, this style will be the focus of everyone's attention. As one of the most stimulating, opulent and glamorous periods in the history of design, the suggestions of Art Deco can be found in the refined details, in the pompous furnishings and in the modern use of materials. The new Art Deco style is a bit slimmer than the old one, because it is filtered by a modern sensibility. We therefore expect that next year the influence of Art Deco will become more prominent, inspiring more and more both the textile design and the silhouettes of the furniture.
