The end of the year is approaching and it is now time to reflect on what might be the new design trends of 2023!

We recently made an evaluation of the past year and, in discussions with interior designers and furniture experts, we tried to imagine what the dominant trends in interior design will be, both in terms of colours and finishes and in terms of must-have accessories and furnishings.

Read on if you want to get some inspiration on the upcoming interior design trends: we recommend it to everyone, but especially to those who are furnishing a new home and want to make truly contemporary and up-to-date choices!

Spaces inspired by nature

The topic of incorporating nature into interior elements will still be prevalent in finishes and accessories.

We will see colours inspired by nature, such as softer greens and blues, which are also very relaxing and pleasing to the eye.

Sustainability will also continue to grow in importance and we will see it reflected in furniture and objects that we choose to add to our homes.

Natural objects such as baskets, containers, plants or tables made of wood or other sustainable and ecological materials will play a key role.

Dramatic atmospheres full of pathos

Painted walls or wallpapered in deep green or purple, in the same colour as the shades, furnishings and fabrics: an extremely modern and trendy choice.

Along the lines of more dramatic and theatrical atmospheres, Gothic is also said to come back. More and more often we see suggestions for decorations and paintings that are black or characterised by very dark tones, creating a mood that is truly full of pathos.

More energetic and fun colour palettes

Almost in contrast to the trend just described, it should be noted that people are increasingly distancing themselves from the ultra-minimalist aesthetic and preferring to opt for more colourful and imaginative décor choices. In fact, wallpapers, as well as unexpected and playful patterns, are becoming particularly fashionable again.

Relaxing pastels

While we may see an increase in deep or bold colours in 2023, pastel shades will continue to dominate some spaces in the home.

These colours are more "softened" than their traditional version, thus creating a calming and very relaxing effect. This is a trend that is not going to die and finds its way into many different styles, from the more contemporary to the more vintage and classic.

Pastel can be found as much on walls as in objects and furnishings.

Lighting to create atmosphere

There is a growing interest in creating different moods for different activities with the right lighting. Floor, ceiling or table lamps, are no longer seen as mere functional objects, but as true furnishing accessories, that are able to create the right atmosphere, for every room and situation.

Therefore, the focus in choosing the right lighting is ever more accurate.

More curves and rounded shapes

For a long time, contemporary furniture was characterised by square, geometric and angular shapes. However, this trend is softening and it is increasingly common to see objects, accessories and furnishings made with curves and rounded shapes. A reminder of the need for naturalness and organicity that drives more and more people to make colour and material choices guided by ecology and sustainability.

The textures predominance

Textures started to become popular in 2022 and will also play a major role in 2023. We can find them everywhere: in walls, finishes, woodwork, countertops, textiles and also, of course, in objects and furnishings.

Textures give character and originality to the space and give it both elegance and personality.
