Alchemie table lamp by Catellani & Smith
Eternal is the antithesis between light and darkness, between Sun and Moon, as part of the very flow of existence. There are many allegorical meanings attributed to the necessary relationship between the two elements, which exist as a consequence of each other and vice versa. The Alchemie T lamp (designed by Giulia Archimede for Catellani & Smith) thus becomes a terrain for investigating this opposing but always, and forever, linked dimension. Alchemie T is a precious sculpture composed of two discs: one is made of alabaster, fixed and lit by LEDs, while the second, made of brass, slides on the base with a light hand gesture. The interaction between light and shadow reaches its climax in the moment when the two discs overlap, almost as if giving rise to an eclipse.
